"Be Not Afraid": A Half-Day Recollection for Teachers and Staff
At the Cradle of JOY, teachers and staff are not only professionally
equipped to ensure that they develop the proper skills to get the job
done well but also, they are spiritually honed to make certain that
the school's mission of shaping young hearts and minds for Jesus begins
with themselves. Being at the frontlines of molding the youth necessitates
spiritual growth and maturity in the faith. Thus, last February 9, 2008,
all the teachers and staff of Cradle of JOY spent a half-day of prayer,
meditating upon the Lord's words in scripture, "Be not afraid" (Matthew
14:27). Based on the story of Peter walking on the water and facing
his fears, the day's speaker, Mr. Bobby Quitain, equally challenged
all those present to TRUST even in the midst of worries and anxieties,
to OBEY God's commands even if there seems too much to loose or we do
not understand fully why things happen as they do, and to BELIEVE that
we can win over our weaknesses and recover from our failures. The recollection
offered times for exhortation and short talks, times for solitude and
personal meditation, times for journal writing and reflection, and times
for sharing in small groups. The day then culminated with the celebration
of the Holy Eucharist, in anticipation of the Sunday Mass. It was indeed
a special occasion for the Cradle of JOY teachers and staff to just
be able to prepare their hearts for the Lenten season and take stock
of the very thing that matters most - a personal relationship with God
and spending time to recharge one's soul.
